We left Marin at 6:30, met Wednesday at Castro Valley Bart at 7, stopped for an In and Out burger, and arrived to the mountains around 11:30. Tried to find a place to sleep of Quail Flat cost us some time, and eventually we parked ourselves on National Forest land off Big Meadow road. THere are much better spots further down the road, but by midnight, we didn't really care.
Nick waking up. Later that day I commented on waking up in a ditch and ending up at a beautiful lake.

There were plenty of permits available for the Lakes Trail. We got breakfast at Lodgepole and hit the trail.

I broke my pole on the way back from our afternoon outing when I stepped into a crack in a big granite block. I was unhappy with losing my pole until I realized that it took the beating that my trapped leg otherwise would have. Much better breaking a pole than breaking a leg... So i am very happy now.
I had to wear long skirts to work for a week, and that was it. Turned to be absolutely nothing. And Leki is replacing the broken pole part.
