4 Our guide from the local village. His great grandfather discovered the caves and started showing them to people. Now the village has a soruce of income outside of agriculture.
5 It is HOT and gets warmer as we get deeper. The oposite of the caves I remember from my youth in Moravia.
6 Slippery mud. My Keen sandals are no match to it.

18 I told the guide about my caving adventures years ago in Slovakia, and he showed me a very tight passage to one of the entrances. Of course he or Larry didn't go! The guide says that during the war (or various wars) the local Mayas used the caves to hide and escape, including this passage. Of course I am pretty big in the Mayan world, but made it through both ways.
